WALKER ZANGER WINS GRAND PRIZE FOR ARCHITECTURAL ACHIEVEMENT IN STONE
25 Bond Street Project Receives 2009 Prism Award
SYLMAR, Calif., May 20, 2009 -
Walker Zanger, the world's most comprehensive stone and tile company, is proud to announce that it received a first place 2009 Prism Award in the commercial category for its thoughtful and extensive use of natural stone for the 25 Bond Street Project in Manhattan, N.Y. The Prism Award, presented by Coverings—the leading trade event for natural stone, ceramic tile, flooring and related products— celebrates creativity and achievement in the use of natural stone.
The winning project is a multifamily dwelling located at 25 Bond Street and is situated in the NoHo neighborhood of Manhattan, N.Y., an area noted for its traditional architectural styles of cast iron buildings and beautifully decorated heavy masonry. The building's façade consists of Benjamin Gold from Israel and Egyptian Oro Tocano granite. Positioning of the façade simultaneously offers privacy and openness to the building's residents as the stone is set eight-inches to 18-inches in front of the pre-existing bronze and glass wall. The depth of the façade is carefully calibrated to the typical depth of the most distinctive buildings in the area and the granite is handcrafted with a bush-hammered finish and pinwheel jointing. Approximately 15,000-square-feet of hand-hewn two-and-three-sixteenth-inch exterior cladding was used for the project, in addition to stone slabs weighing three tons and measuring 16-feet long and eight-inches thick.
The 2009 award marks the second Prism Award recognizing the use of Walker Zanger products. In 2008, a first place Prism Award in the residential category was given for a private residence project at the Four Seasons Hotel Tower in Miami that prominently featured Walker Zanger stone and tile.
The Prism Award and $2,000 cash prize were presented at Coverings 2009 to Jonathan Zanger, Walker Zanger president. He was joined by his parents Hanna and Leon Zanger, Walker Zanger chairman and CEO, as well as members of the Walker Zanger team including: Pat Petrocelli, vice president and chief operating officer; Mike Bastone, vice president of sales; and Tristan McManaman, marketing director.
